Residency at Deveron Projects

An independent residency in North East Scotland.

Eleanor Goulding

In October I took time out of our busy studio practice to spend a week at Deveron Projects in Huntly Aberdeenshire.

Here are some reflections, tests and experiments made during my time at the ‘Artists House’ next to the river Deveron.

Tarlair Seapool and Mc Duff.

A dear friend and writer Kirsty Whatley took me to visit the Tarlair Sea Pool where the Deveron River finally flows into the Moray Firth between the twin towns of Banff and Macduff. Further North are the Orkney Isles and Fair Isle.

Studio reflections of Mc Duff;

layers of water and wind and black granite rocks

Thinking through making and the rythmic sounds of the sewing machine -

Sample, experiments and tests using pieces of fabric that been in my sewing bag for what seems like forever.

Film evening

On my final evening at the Artists’ House, I invited a small group of friends for dinner and a test screening and discussion around my short film, Cormorant.

I showed the tests and experiments made throughout the week, made elderberry tonic from berries collected on a walk that day and we shared a meal together around the table. Everyone was invited to draw, eat or bring some work along to talk about. It was a happy and thoughtful evening of shared connection and discussion.

Program;

The Otter , Silent. 8 min. Pioneering early nature film with scenes of an otter swimming underwater. 1912.

Cormorant, Eleanor Goulding 2026.

Test screening of ‘Cormorant’ to a small group of friends at the Artists’ House.
