Cellular Shade
Public Art Commission – Fleming Park Paddling Pool, Eastleigh
We were commissioned to design new bespoke shading structures for the Fleming Park Paddling Pool.
The project is funded using developer's contributions for public art in Eastleigh.
We proposed an approach inspired by plant cells, which prioritises using sustainable materials and aims to maximise available shade.
In summer 2025 we ran creative activities and spoke to local residents at Pavilion on the Park, Places Leisure and the Paddling Pool. Through this process we developed two designs, which complement the shade created by newly planted trees as they grow and create an overlapping shade canopy.
